Four people killed in UAE thunderstorms

Four people were killed during thunderstorms and heavy rain across the UAE this weekend, local media reports.

According to the National, three people died in Sharjah after being electrocuted while standing in water.
Meanwhile, one person was killed in Dubai, and 13 others injured when an entrance collapsed at Global Village.
A statement by Global Village, reported by the Khaleej Times, said: “Due to the extreme and unexpected weather conditions, an element of the Indian pavilion entrance fell. As a result of this accident, 14 people were taken to hospital where one of the injured later died.”
The attraction was closed on Sunday because of the bad weather.
Dubai Police registered more than 170 traffic accidents caused by the rain, 21 of which were serious.
More rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the UAE on Monday.
Dubai Municipality has formed an emergency management team to deal with the deluge expected over the next day or so.
Fifty cleaning workers and 10 supervisors, using 10 vehicles, will be working across the emirate to clear and drain water from roads.
It has already dealt with at least 35 complaints including about a fallen tree blown over by the strong winds on Sunday, an official statement said.
