Bahrain mystery disease identified
A mystery disease that has forced vets to put down eight horses in Bahrain has been identified as the highly contagious bacterial infection glanders or equine.
The potentially fatal disease can be passed on to other animals and humans, but the country’s top vet said there was little threat to the population.
Dr Salman Abdul Nabi, Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry livestock director, told the Gulf Daily News, the outbreak could be controlled.

Planning a disease prevention program for your performance horses is an important aspect of owning a horse. One basic component of any good horse health program is a complete vaccination.
