The Qatar Robotic Surgery Centre, a collaboration between Qatari and UK educational institutions, was launched in London this week, according to press reports in Qatar.
The Qatar Robotic Surgery Centre (QRSC) is a joint project by the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Weill Cornell Medical College and the Imperial College London. <-- eeeeehhhh dinyaaa .. we7na lelkhalf DORRRRRRR
The QRSC aims to focus on the fast-growing field of medical robotics and robotic surgery and to promote its application in the Middle East.
The launch was held at the Royal Academy of Engineering in London and attended by HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, chairwoman of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and UK and Qatari dignitaries, according to The Peninsula daily newspaper in Doha.
“The Academy wholeheartedly welcomes this development,” Lord Browne of Madingley, president of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said opening the ceremony. “It builds on a most effective partnership which has such a strong track record in developing robotic surgery. The new centre provides an excellent opportunity to develop and apply this key area of medical engineering for the benefit of patients around the world.”
Lord Ara Darzi of Imperial College London, UK Business Ambassador a former government health minister and one of the first surgeons to operate using the robotic system, has been appointed as chairman of the QRSC International Surgery Panel.
“The application of robots into surgical practice is in its infancy and we envisage the collaboration will drive innovation in education and training, research and clinical practice,” said Lord Darzi
In January, Lord Darzi demonstrated the latest technology behind ‘robotic’ hands and fingers that look and act like the real thing to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress in Dubai.
