Porsche issues Mideast recall on seat belt faults

Luxury carmaker Porsche has issued a recall of all Porsche Panamera cars in the Middle East after a fault was discovered in the seat belt fastening system, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Porsche requests all Panamera drivers to contact or visit their local Porsche Service Centres. An additional safety element on the seat belt fastening point has to be fitted on 11,324 of the Porsche Panamera 2010 model,” the carmaker said in an official statement.

The recall will affect 504 models in the UAE, some of which had not yet been delivered to customers. The Porsche Panamera model has been available in the UAE since October last year.

“This is a preventative measure carried out at no cost to the customer. There are no reports on any incidents related to this matter. The repair is minor and will take a very short time. The respective spare parts are available in all regional Porsche Service Centres in the sufficient quantities,” the statement added.

This follows a recall in the US by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which will affect 3,176 vehicles. The NHTSA said the Panamera’s seat belt mounts could fail when the front seats are adjusted in an extreme forward position.

This is the latest recall to follow in the footsteps of recalls issued by Toyota and General Motors. GM issued a recall of more than 6,000 vehicles in the Middle East over potential problems with the steering column and fuel hoses, while Japanese carmaker Toyota was also forced to issue a recall of Lexus, Avalon and Sequoia models.
