GM to recall 6,000 vehicles in Middle East

General Motors on Tuesday said it will recall more than 6,000 vehicles in the Middle East over potential problems with the steering column and fuel hoses

The Detroit-based car giant warned owners of Chevrolet Captiva and GMC Terrain vehicles that the steering shaft may separate from the column while the car is being driven, without giving further details.
Some 5,262 Chevrolet Captiva and 916 GMC Terrain cars will be recalled for repairs, the manufacturer said in a statement.

Owners of Chevrolet Cruze vehicles will also be affected by the recall. A fault with the fuel feeding hose in the car has been identified, which could potentially cause a fuel leak.
Some 2,262 cars are to be recalled for repairs, General Motors said, adding that all customers will be informed of the call-back.
There have been no reports of injuries or accidents due to the steering column failing, the firm said. The statement did not clarify whether the fuel hose fault had led to any accidents.
It is the latest in a series of embarrassing recalls for the car manufacturer, which faced bankruptcy in 2009 and is still largely owned by the US government.
In recent weeks it has ordered a recall of more than a quarter of a million of compact cars in Canada over steering problems and more than 60,000 vehicles in South Korea for faulty fuel hoses. In the US, a 130,000-strong recall has been issued for certain Cadillac CTS sedans following concerns over brake hose fittings.
A General Motors spokesperson confirmed to Arabian Business that cars sold in the Middle East are imported from the firm’s South Korea plant.
