صورة حرس الباسيج التي تسابقت لابرازها وكالات الانباء ووسائل الاعلام العالمية وهم يرتدون الملابس العربية ممثلة بالدشداشة والعباءة «البشت» والغترة والعقال يرى محللون سياسيون انها تحمل عدداً من الرسائل بمضامين تتراوح مابين استعراض السيادة في المنطقة وتجميل صورتها الداخلية امام الرأي العام العالمي ومن ابرزها قضية الايرانيين العرب في اقليم الاحواز الذين يتهمونها بمصادرة حقوقهم. عبدالله الشايجي رئيس قسم العلوم السياسية في جامعة الكويت والدكتورة مريم حسن المتخصصة في الشؤون الايرانية اجلت ماوراء تلك الملابس العربية التي يرتديها الباسيج من رسائل الى العالم الخارجي ايضا مفادها ان ايران هي من تحمل القضايا العربية وهي رسالة موجهة ايضا الى المنطقة العربية مع اشارة الباحثين الى اهتمام الفكر الايراني بالقضية الفلسطينية وجعمها تنظيمات واحزاب في المنطقة. والى جانب تلك الرسائل يرى المحللون ان قضية العرب الاهواز كانت حاضرة ضمن تلك الرسائل الايرانية الى العالم يحاول من خلالها النظام الايراني الايحاء للعالم بأنه مدعوم من كافة اطياف الشعب الايراني بما فيهم العرب غير ان الدكتور عبدالله الشايجي قلل من اهمية تأثير تلك الرسالة في ظل الاعلام المفتوح والانترنت بما يعلن عنه من حقائق لا يمكن اخفاؤها. ففي القراءة السياسية للصورة اكد من جانبه رئيس قسم العلوم السياسية بجامعة الكويت د.عبدالله الشايجي رئيس قسم العلوم السياسية في جامعة الكويت ان ظهور عناصر من الباسيج وهم يرتدون الغترة والعقال والبشت اثناء العرض العسكري لم يكن بالموضوع الجديد او المرة الاولي التي يعرض النظام الايراني ذلك، منوها الى انها عادة متبعة يهدف من ورائها النظام الى اظهار وجود الايرانيين من اصول عربية بأنهم يتمتعون بكامل حقوق المواطنة ومنخرطين في القوات المسلحة وبالاخص الباسيج الذين يحضون بالثقة وهم موالون للنظام الايراني وثورة الخميني، لافتا الى ان هذا التصرف هو جزء من حملة العلاقات العامة الايرانية لكسب عقول وود وقلوب الشعبي العربي والايراني والرد ايضا على الاتهامات حول قمع ايران لمواطينها من الدرجة الثانية وعرب الاهواز. وقال د.الشايجي ان الصورة التي نشرتها وسائل الاعلام الخميس الماضي لعناصر الباسيج باللباس العربي اثناء العرض العسكري الايراني هي صورة معبرة يهدف من خلالها النظام الايراني لارسال عدة رسائل الى الدول العربية المجاورة ,لفت الى ان مثل هذه التصرفات والتلون لا تنطلي في عصر الاعلام المفتوح حاليا من خلال الفضائيات والانترنت بما يتضمنه من مواقع الكترونية تخصصية على الكثيرين كما يعتقدون، مشددا على ان المطلوب في وقتنا الحالي هو تغيير السياسات والافعال وليس التجمل بهكذا تصرفات التي لم تعد تجدي نفعا. كما اشار الدكتور الشايجي الى ان هناك تقارير تقول من ان النظام الايراني يمنع عرب الاهواز ممن يقطنون في الجنوب غربي البلاد والتي تطلق عليها ايران اسم خورستان في حين يسميها الاحوازيين «عربستان» من تسمية ابنائهم بالاسماء العربية، منوها الى ان المعارضة الايرانية الاحوازية في الخارج تتهتم ايران باستمرار باستغلال خيرات العرب. وشرح الدكتور الشايجي عن الباسيج التي تسمى بها القوة الحامية للنظام في ايران وقال ان «الباسيج» كلمة الفارسية تعني التعبئة من قبل متطوعين ممن هم عقائديين وانصار لثورة الامام الخميني يتركز عملهم في الدفاع عن الثورة في جميع الاوقات وذلك في السلم والحرب. وبيّن الشايجي ان الباسيج يضم متطوعين من الرجال والنساء يتجاوز عددهم الثلاثة ملايين شخص اغلبهم من المدنيين، وذلا فهم يرتدون الملابس المدنية وليست العسكرية وذلك بهدف التمويه وسهولة الحركة داخل وخارج الشوارع والمدن والاندماج مع المواطنيين، في حين انهم كثيرا ما توجه لهم الانتقادات بسبب تصرفاتهم الفضة واستخدامهم للقوة والشدة ضد من يعتقدونهم خصوما للنظام. وهنا بيّن الدكتور الشايجي الى ان الباسيج لعب دورا مهما في الحرب الايرانية - العراقية وكذلك في قمع التظاهرات المعارضة لنظام احمد نجادي عقب الانتخابات الرئاسية الاخيرة في العام الماضي، مذكرا بان افراد الباسيج ظهروا في الاضطرابات الاخيرة على درجات نارية ويحملون الهراوات والسلاسل لافتا الى ان الباسيج يخضعون مباشرة للحرس الثوري. رسائل ومفارقات من جانبها اعتبرت استاذة العلوم السياسية في جامعة الكويت د.مريم حسن ان الصورة التي نشرت اخيرا بارتداء بعض قوات الباسيج الايرانية للزي العربي اثناء احد العروض العسكرية يتضمن رسالة واسقاط مباشر موجهين الى شعوب منطقة الخليج ودول العربية مفادها ان ايران تتبني بقوة كل القضايا التي تهم المواطن العربي والتي على رأسها القضية الفلسطينية، مشيرة الى ان نفس هذه الرسالة او الاسقاط مارسها رئيس النظام العراقي البائد في احد فتراته وذلك لايصال نفس المضمون الى سكان المنطقة. وهنا سجلت الدكتورة مريم حسن المتخصصة في الشؤون الايرانية مفارقة تضمن العرض العسكري الايراني لقوات ترتدي الزي العربي على الرغم من انها ليست دولة عربية، في حين ان العروض العسكرية لكل دول الخليج والتي هي بالاصل والاساس دول عربية لم تضم تلك الصورة والمشاهد، حيث يتم مشاهدة القوات وهي تردي البس العسكري التقليدي بدون ان يتم مزجهم بالزي العربي التقليدي كما فعلتها ايران، مشيرة الى ان الزي يمثل في النهاية رمز للوطنية والقوة والاعتزاز بالنسبة الى اي شعب في العالم. وبذلك قالت د.مريم حسن ان رؤية قوات عسكرية تحمل السلاح وتردي اللباس العربي هي رسالة لاتقتصر على شعوب دول الخليج العربية وانما تمتد الى كل شعوب العالم الخارجي وبالتحديد الغربي، «فنحن كعرب نستطيع التمييز بين الشخص العربي عن غيره، في حين ان الانسان الغربي غير قادر على ادراك ذلك التمييز، وسيري فقط ان هذه الصورة عبارة عن عرب ومسلمين يحملون السلاح ويتهيئون للقتال، وهو مايمثل تهديدا مباشرا بالنسبة لهم، كون الصورة في النهاية ستكون عبارة عن رجل مسلم وعربي يحمل سلاحا وهي المعادلة التي يخشاها اي انسان غربي في هذا الوقت وخصوصا بعد احداث 11 سبتمبر والذي صاحبه فيما بعد تشويه الكامل لصورة الاسلام والمسلمين».

Ferrari has announced the 670hp SA Aperta will debut at the Paris International Auto Show 2010.

Based on the Ferrari 599, it is a special model limited to just 80 cars, and all have already been sold. Ferrari chose to build 80 SA Apertas in celebration of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary.
The SA nomenclature stands for Superamerica but also pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina, whose company and work have been linked to the most successful road-going cars ever built at Maranello.
The SA Aperta is a true roadster, which allows its occupants to enjoy the emotions afforded by the signature front-engined V12 architecture in a completely open-top setting.
The car is fitted with a lightweight soft-top, designed to be used only if the weather gets particularly bad. By doing away with a bulky convertible roof, the designers have saved weight.
A low-slung windshield and the cars low stance lends the SA Aperta an aerodynamic sleekness. Its profile arches back from the A-post to two fins integrated into the two roll-bars, which themselves mimic the outline of the seats.
The chassis has been redesigned to deliver a standard of stiffness comparable to that of a closed coupe, and there is a negligible weight difference, thanks to work done on the structure.

Kuwait expects Vietnam refinery to start by 2014

Kuwait intends to keep its 35.1 percent stake in Vietnam’s second refinery, planned to be ready in 2014, the middle eastern country’s oil minister said.

Speaking in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, Sheikh Ahmad al Abdullah al Sabah said: “We got assurance today that the government is serious about giving us all the necessary agreements or approvals."

He added: “Once the refinery is completed, it’s assured that there will be exports of 200,000 barrels of crude oil to Vietnam.”

Japanese oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan and its partners delayed a decision on investing $5.8 billion in the refinery, putting off its potential start date to 2014, the company said Sept 17.

Idemitsu and Kuwait Petroleum International each have a 35.1 percent stake in the 200,000 barrel a day project at Nghi Son, while state controlled Vietnam Oil & Gas Group holds 25.1 percent and Mitsui Chemicals has 4.7 percent.

Kuwait hopes the Vietnamese government will approve the project “within the next few weeks,” said Sheikh Ahmad, who is visiting the country to speed up negotiations on the plant.

Vietnam’s first oil refinery, which started commercial production at Dung Quat in February last year, has the capacity to supply 148,000 barrels a day, a third of the country’s 2010 fuel demand.

Previously, the Southeast Asian nation imported almost all of its oil products.

Dubai, a regional tourism and trading center, is slowly emerging from a debt crisis following a crash of its property market after a global financial downturn. The slowdown led to billions of dollars in project cancellations and thousands of job losses.
"Preparations for filming in Dubai have been agreed with the production company, Paramount, following two months of meetings and location scouting," the media office said in a statement.
"Actual filming of the project, that will attract more than 400 industry professionals, is expected to commence within a few weeks," it added.

Dubai has been on a mission to become a Singapore-style global business and leisure center with fast living and no income tax.
As part of its ambitions, it has strived to become a movie hub in the region, launching a film festival to much fanfare in 2004, and marketing itself as a one-stop-shop for international movie production with projects such as Dubai Studio City (DSC).

Kuwait inflation up 3.4% year-on-year in June

Kuwait’s inflation rate increased 3.4 percent in June compared to the same month the previous year, Central Department of Statistics data shows.

Food prices lead the inflation rise, increasing by 7.2 percent year-on-year, while house prices rose by 4.7 percent, the official news agency KUNA reports.

Compared to May, inflation was slightly up with an increase of 0.5 percent. Food prices were up 0.1 percent and house prices up 1.3 percent.

According to the report, beverages and tobacco prices rose four percent compared to June 2009, but recorded a decline of 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.

Clothing and footwear costs increased 3.8 percent year-on-year, while the rate of inflation for education and health services rose 1.5 percent during the same period.

Iran’s first nuclear power station - in pic's

Iran’s first nuclear power plant is just a few weeks away from operation after 35 years in construction.

The Russian built and operated Bushehr plant has taken so long to build due to a series of sanctions imposed by the United Nations

The first fuel has been loaded into the nuclear plant in southern Iran. The facility's uranium fuel will fall well below the enrichment level needed for weapons-grade uranium.

This has satisfied International concerns that Iran was intending to produce a nuclear weapon.

The plant is likely to begin electricity production in a month.

The Bushehr plant was commissioned by Iran's last shah before the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution

Russia has promised to monitor the plant closely and to recover any material which Iran could use to make nuclear weapons, according to international reports.

The Bushehr reactor will be fully fueled by September 22.

"Gurgi'yaan" The Kuwaiti Ramadan Tradition

In the middle of the Holy Month of Ramadan in Kuwait, there is a tradition called Gurgi'yaan. For three days the children get together, get all dressed up in traditional Kuwait garb, boys wearing "dishdashas" (the long Kuwaiti robe), and an embroidered cap and vest, and the girls wearing "bukhnag" (a long, sheer, gold-embroidered head cover) and traditional "dara'a" (embroidered traditional Kuwaiti long dress), all carrying their "gurgi'yaan" bags (usually cloth bags with embroidery and a long strap, with plenty of room for collecting candy and other sweetmeats) and go around chanting and singing old traditional Kuwaiti songs which are like supplications (prayers) for the residents of the homes they pass by. The idea is that the people come out and give them candy and other treats in order to thank them for their supplications. The word "gurgi'yaan" comes from the candy that is now included in the mix of candy and nuts that is given out at this time. The "gurgi'yaan" is the candy that is white and bumpy looking with a crunchy garbanzo bean inside.
For many Kuwaiti households this is the time of making large parties for their children, and the children of the relatives and friends. In these parties you may see clowns, magicians, traditional bands, traditional games and more. For others, attendance at the many locally sponsored parties is enough, and the children all enjoy all this excitement very much, of course! Many households make special "gurgi'yaan" packets for their children, or for the household to give out to the children who come by or come to their party. These special packets could be made with little baskets.

Consumption of Dates During Ramadan Increases

Muslims from different countries may eat different traditional regional dishes at their Iftar dinners, but all Muslims are required to break the fast with a date. It is a religious requirement, and as dates are generally in excess of 65% sugar, it provides an instant carb boost after a day without food or water. Consumption of dates during Ramadan increases dramatically. Saudi dates are deemed the noblest of all dates, coming from the holy land. They are also regarded by many connoisseurs as the best quality dates. There are several hundred varieties of dates. The main varieties are Khodri, Sagai, Khalas, Sukkari, Safawi, Mabroom, Barhi and Amwaj. Like other fruit, dates are a seasonal product, therefore the supply of fresh delicious dates is always limited. However Palmwonders provides processed dates (Tamr) and dried dates all year round.
Dates are classified as soft, semidry, or dry, depending upon the softness of the ripe fruit.

Dates freeze extremely well, so you can put them in your freezer and enjoy them year round.

The fully ripe date is plump, with a golden-brown smooth skin. The natural sugar contained in the date is much better for a person than highly refined white sugar.
Dates can be eaten with whole raw milk for ulcers of the stomach. When used this way, however, you may have to soak and peel them. The date water can be used with milk for children who have sensitive stomachs, as it helps digest the milk. The fiber or cellulose of the date is very soft and will not irritate a sensitive bowel or stomach. Dates are heat-producing, and give energy to people who engage in physical exercise and hard work. They are also a good source of copper, which is a diet essential, even though it is needed by the body only in small amounts.

Food plays a large part in Kuwaiti culture. The national dish of Kuwait known as machboos consists mainly of mutton, or chicken placed over or mixed in a large mass of well-cooked and prepared rice. Food is almost always prepared and served in large amounts, and it is extremely common for households to invite guests over to share meals. Kuwaiti cuisine is an infusion of Indian, Persian, Mediterranean, and Najdi (the center of the Arabian Peninsula) cuisine.

The following is the most common Kuwaiti traditional dishes during Ramadan:

• Qouzi, a Kuwait national dish consisting of a roasted lamb stuffed with rice, chicken, eggs, and other ingredients.

• Machboos, a dish made with mutton or chicken accompanied over fragrant rice that been cooked in chicken/mutton well spiced broth.

• Laban Buttermilk.

• Gers Ogaily, a traditional cake made with eggs, flour, sugar, cardamom, and saffron. Traditionally served with tea.

• Harees, wheat cooked with meat then mashed ,usually topped with cinnamon sugar.

• Jireesh (Yireesh), a mash of cooked spelt with chicken or lamb ,tomatoes and some spices.

CGS Motorsports Teases SEMA Show 2011 Chevy Camaro with Supercharged V8

CGS Motorsports, a California-based company that specializes on high-performance exhaust and air intake systems, released a teaser sketch of a customized 2011 Chevy Camaro it will bring to the tuner-event in Las Vegas.

The CGS Motorsports-prepped Camaro will get an upgraded version of GM's 6.2-liter V8 fitted with a Whiplpe twin-screw supercharger and one of the company's cat-back exhaust systems, pumping out some 500-ponies. The car also benefits from Chris Alston's Fab 9 rear end with a latter bar and coil over suspension, 22-inch alloys shod in Pirelli tires, a custom paint job, a ZR1 influenced hood, and a body kit by ACS.

Food prices rise

Traditional iftar dishes certainly include a lot of ingredients: lamb with rice and almonds, beef brochettes, fruit, vegetables, sugary treats and more, night after night, for a month. The result? Supermarkets often experience an increase in demand for these ingredients, and food prices rise. The UAE economy ministry therefore monitors retail food prices during the month of Ramadan to prevent hoarding and price manipulation – last year several retailers (including some sellers at Dubai’s Fruit and Veg Market) were fined for not displaying price tags, and were charged Dhs1,000 for hiking prices.
While some supermarket chains (Carrefour and Lulu) agreed to price caps back in 2008 when food prices reached their all-time peak, Emirates Cooperative Society announced last month that it will be reducing its prices on essential food and non-food items by as much as 30 per cent in all its branches. Huzzah!

The advertising industry goes into overdrive

The Arab world’s television viewing numbers go through the roof during Ramadan, because Muslims tend to stay indoors and tune into special comedies, dramas, religious programmes and (highly melodramatic) soaps. So, as with the annual American Superbowl game, the battle for advertising slots during the commercial breaks is fraught – and lucrative.

Leading broadcasters typically earn about 30 per cent of their annual advertising income during the Holy Month, and this year things are set to be even more profitable. ‘We are expecting a two-digit growth in Ramadan ad revenue on MBC1 this year versus last year,’ says Mazen Hayek, group director of public relations and commercial for MBC Group. Vimto sales go through the roof

Traditionally, Muslims are encouraged to break fast with water and fruit juices. In reality many Muslims first take a sip of famed British fruity concoction Vimto. The drink has always been popular in the Middle East, ever since its invention in the early 20th century. However, after a series of innovative online ads ‘went viral’ in international chatrooms in 2007 and 2008, Ramadan sales of the cordial shot from a typical 15 million bottles to more than 20 million that year – around six times the amount sold in a normal month. Kraft Foods’ Tang is another popular energy-boosting drink after a day of fasting, with its sales rising by 200 per cent during the month. But why are these so popular? Because they’re both non-carbonated, sweet to drink, quickly quench your thirst and give a quick shot of energy (about 17 and 5 calories respectively).

Hotels offer more competitive room rates

Dubai’s hotels are always shouting about their super-cheap summer deals during the hotter months. Why? To try to entice residents to splash out on weekend staycations and persuade tourists to snap up the cheaper flights – all to compensate for the obvious lulls that a 45°C summer can bring. However, the fact that Ramadan falls earlier, on August 11, this year (the Holy Month advances by about 10 days each year, as based on the Islamic lunar calendar) could mean the summer dip is harsher than usual.

Many fasting GCC Muslims tend to stay close to home during Ramadan instead of visiting Dubai, and the ban on alcohol and eating in public during the day may deter foreign visitors from further afield. Alternatively, some hotel managers believe that because Ramadan’s timing falls on the school holidays in Europe, the cultural month could generate more business. Either way, the benefit for us is cheaper Dubai hotel rates throughout. Bonus!

A number of prison inmates are pardoned

Every year on the first day of Ramadan, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, pardons and releases hundreds of prisoners. Last year the count was 595, and in 2008 it was 777, including British DJ Grooverider (aka Raymond Bingham), who was stopped and searched at customs as he entered the emirate, and sentenced to four years in jail for possessing cannabis. The pardoning practice is to express the Ramadan spirit of forgiveness and fresh starts.

People move into mosques for the last 10 days of Ramadan

‘I’tikaf’ is a particularly pious Islamic tradition, in which a person will spend evenings and nights in a mosque, typically for 10 days at the end of Ramadan. This is to ‘recharge the spiritual batteries’ by removing oneself from the temptations of socialising, and spending time worshipping and reading the Qur’an.

Recruitment quietens down

Typically hiring slows right down during summer, especially with Ramadan at the same time, so many company bigwigs and decision-makers tend to go away for the month or work Ramadan hours. However, according to insiders, this year is looking slightly brighter than last. Phew!

You’ve heard all the rumours, now here are the facts. We present your essential guide on behaviour during the Holy Month

DO listen to music on your iPod if you wish. As long as the tunes you’re playing are inaudible to others, you won’t offend anyone.

DO make the most of the community spirit and food to be found in the iftar and suhour tents at many of the city’s larger hotels. Look upon it as an opportunity to relax, play games and experience some traditional Arabic hospitality.
DO get into the charitable spirit during the Holy Month. You don’t have to spend the earth – small gestures go a long way. From buying a construction worker some water at sunset to rescuing a kitten, every little helps, and it’s a great way to give something back to the community.

DO visit the free iftars at local mosques. They’re for everyone, rich or poor, young or old – there is no barrier. They are generally organised by the mosque committee, although neighbours and surrounding residents also bring delicacies such as dates and laban (a yoghurt drink), which they usually share with others.

DO go to pub quizzes during Ramadan. Anything that may distract the mind from its meditative state during fasting hours should be avoided, but bar quizzes that take place after 7pm are perfectly fine.

DO ask fasters how it’s going, but bear in mind that it’s a religious experience so keep your enquiries short and respectful, and avoid asking them how they are every two hours. You’ll only make them hungry!

DON’T smoke, drink, chew gum or eat in public in the hours between sunrise and sunset. It’s offensive, and blatant flouting of the rules could also get you a warning or fine from the police, or even result in you spending the rest of the month in jail.

DON’T dance or sing in public at any time, day or night. Not that you should have many opportunities – there will be no live music gigs during Ramadan, and only background music will be allowed in bars.

DON’T expect to have the kind of blow-out clubbing weekends you’re used to. Major nightclubs will be shut, but most bars and pubs will be open in the evenings. While some may open before sundown, they will not serve any alcohol until 7pm.

DON’T play very loud music at any time, whether in your car, on the beach or even at home. If it’s audible to others, it may offend.

DON’T wear any revealing or tight clothing in public.

DON’T swear in public. Blasphemy is frowned upon at the best of times, but during the Holy Month it’s particularly insulting.

DON’T Drink outside, even if you have been jogging or exercising. The general rule is no drinking, eating, or smoking in public, regardless of whether you think anyone can see you.

Egypt has the highest rate of new hepatitis C (HCV) infections ever recorded in the world, with more than half a million new cases occurring each year, new data has found.

A paper published on Monday in the journal ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’ found erratic medical hygiene is driving soaring infection rates across the Arab world’s most populous country, with one in every ten Egyptians now a carrier of HCV.

According to the study, Egypt’s 77 million-strong population now houses a ticking timebomb of at least 4.5 million people that are infectious to others.

“The study opened our eyes to a disease burden similar in scale and challenge to the HIV problem in sub-Saharan Africa; millions of cases of an infection for which there is no vaccine, no effective treatment, and where case management is so expensive that it is beyond the reach of most patients,” said Dr Laith Abu-Raddad, co-author of the study and assistant professor of public health Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar.

A total of 537,000 new HCV cases are reported in the Arab state annually, meaning nearly seven in 1,000 Egyptians acquire the infection each year.

The record figures suggest “intense ongoing transmission” said the lead author on the study, Dr F DeWolfe Miller, driven by scrappy medical and dental hygiene practices.

“This is the highest level of HCV transmission ever recorded at a national level for a blood-borne infectious disease transmitted parenterally, that is, by use of non-sterile medical instruments,” said Millar, who is a professor of epidemiology at the University of Hawaii.

Hepatitis C affects the liver and is caught through blood-to-blood contact. The disease is known to be transmitted through poor medical hygiene, intravenous drug use, body piercing, tattooing or even sharing an infected person's razor or toothbrush.

Many people infected with the virus have no symptoms, and are only diagnosed when liver damage appears many years later.

The findings reveal an urgent need for tighter public health measures, aimed at slashing the transmission rate in hospitals and clinics.

“There is only one way to deal with the HCV challenge in this country: HCV prevention,” said Dr Miller. “Failure to act could swamp the public health system over the coming decades with millions of cases of HCV disease complications with an economic and social cost that this nation does not have the means to confront.”

BlackBerry Messenger to continue in Saudi

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion on Tuesday won a reprieve from a threatened ban on its Messenger texting service as Saudi Arabia said progress was being made on addressing its concerns.

The company's biggest Gulf market with 700,000 users, Saudi Arabia had threatened to ban the service last Friday before giving RIM until Monday as it worked with local firms testing servers.

"In light of the positive developments in completing part of the regulatory requirements from the service providers, the regulatory authority has decided to allow the continuation of the BlackBerry Messenger services," the regulator said in a statement on the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

It will "continue working with the service providers to complete the rest of the regulatory requirements," the Communications and Information Telecommunications Commission (CITC) said.

CITC spokesman Sultan al-Malik declined to give more details.

Saudi Arabia, like neighbours United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and others including India, has expressed concern that BlackBerry's encrypted messaging could be used to harm social and national security interests.

The regulator did not say whether it had reached an explicit agreement with RIM to address its national security concerns.

If the two sides reach a compromise, analysts expect the regulator to scrap its planned ban on Messenger, though they say installing local servers could still disrupt services for weeks.

BlackBerry, unlike rivals Nokia and Apple, operates its own network through facilities in Canada and the UK.

Top Saudi operator Saudi Telecom Co and rival Mobily were not immediately available for comment.

A CITC official said on Sunday that Canada's RIM and Saudi mobile firms were testing three servers through which data and communications coming in and out of Saudi Arabia would transit in addition to RIM's server in Canada. (Reuters)

Spain win first World Cup after Iniesta extra time strike

Spain won the World Cup for the first time when they beat Netherlands 1-0 after extra time thanks to a goal by midfielder Andres Iniesta.

Iniesta fired home the winner when he was put through in the area by Cesc Fabregas. Keeper Maarten Stekelenburg dived to his right and got a hand to the ball he could not keep it out.

The defeat was heartbreaking for the Dutch, who were down to 10 men after John Heitinga was sent off in extra time. It was their third World Cup final loss after 1974 and 1978.

European champions Spain had looked the more assured early on in the clash at Soccer City as a nervous looking Dutch side ceded territory to their slick opponents.

Stekelenburg was forced into a save after five minutes when Sergio Ramos headed a Xavi cross goalwards while Spain forward David Villa crashed a volley into the side netting with the goal looming.

But a series of freekicks and bookings, including two strong challenges by Dutch midfielders Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel, shook Spain out of their rhythm and stopped them from producing the swift passing game that got them to the final.

Netherlands offered little in attack and the nearest they came to a first half goal was a bizarre incident when Gregory van der Wiel attempted to give the ball back in an act of sportsmanship.

The fullback's 60 metre punt bounced up and over Spain captain Iker Casillas, forcing the startled keeper to leap and tip it to safety.

After a few time, we decided to make a totally new EPISODE of twenty minutes, like the standard original TV episode.The TEAM spent six months to create the space suit, the control seat of the robot, and one week with the troupe dipped in the SNOW.The movie has two real actors, and the rest has been created thanks to a wide use of Computer Graphic.In this episode Doctor Umon (PROCTON in Italy) meets for the first time Daisuke (ACTARUS in Italy), whose suit was quite restyled, though it still keeps its peculiar aspect. The claims in the message are utter nonsense. No star, other than our own Sun, will be anywhere near the Earth in June or at any other time. There is no star named "Aderoid". The message seems to be a mangled and mutated version of the old "mars close to Earth" hoax.

According to this message, which circulates via email and has also been posted to many blogs, forums and social networking websites, a star by the name of "Aderoid" will come within 34.65 million miles of Earth in June 2010 and it will look as large as the Sun to the naked eye. The message claims that, because this star will be so close, it will look like the Earth has two suns.
However, the claims in the message are utter nonsense. A star named "Aderoid" or any other star, not even our own Sun, certainly will NOT be within 34.65 million miles of the Earth in June 2010 or at any other time in the foreseeable future.
The distance of our Sun from the Earth is around 93 million miles. Thus it is simply ridiculous to suggest that another star is about to come much closer to the Earth - only 34 million miles or so - than our Sun. If a star, even one smaller than our sun, was to come that close we certainly would not be gazing with wonder and merriment at the spectacular sky. In fact, we would be resoundingly dead, along with all other life on the planet. As a case in point, our inner neighbour, Mercury - far too hot and inhospitable to host life as we know it - is around 36 million miles from the sun. Thus, if a second sun was to really come within 34 million miles - closer than Mercury is to our Sun - than our cool, green and blue world would be much more like our hellish and lifeless neighbour. In reality, aside from the Sun, the closest star system to Earth is Alpha Centauri, at around 25.8 trillion miles.
And, of course the gravitational consequences of the sudden appearance of a second star in our Solar system would likely be catastrophic to say the least.
Moreover, there are no credible references to a star with the name "Aderoid". A search for that name on the Internet Stellar Database website yields no results. Nor does the same search on the SIMBAD Astronomical Database.
In reality, as the following example illustrates, this silly prank email is nothing more that a mangled version of the Mars, Earth - Closest Approach in Recorded History hoax that tends to circulate every year around July and August.
